Teachers Present SFS at National Forum on Postgraduate English Teaching

On May 14th, all teachers of the Postgraduate Foreign Language Teaching Department under the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) attended an online conference of the 8th National Forum on Postgraduate English Teaching and Development 2022. Huang Wenjiao and Liu Julian delivered speeches at the meeting.

This event was co-organized by the School of Foreign Languages of Dalian University of Technology and China Renmin University Press under the leadership of the Sub-association for Postgraduate English Teaching and Research of Beijing Association of Higher Education (BAHE). As it is a national seminar on English teaching for postgraduates, teachers of the SFS took an active part in it. Liu Julian made a specialized presentation at Venue 3, and Huang Wenjiao made an attractive one at Venue 4.

Liu's presentation is a systematic one themed “Research on the Application of Blended Teaching Mode in Public Postgraduate English Teaching under the Backdrop of Double First-Class construction. At first, she introduced the general situation of blended teaching at home and abroad, and then described the formation of the concept, definition improvement and development trend. Next, with the MOOC “English Academic Writing and Communicating” created by the postgraduate English teaching team as an example, she detailed how teachers of the Postgraduate English Teaching Department practice blended teaching. Finally, Liu gave a brief introduction to the practice of blended teaching in the SFS and analyzed the challenges and solutions to this mode of teaching.

Huang' presentation is about how to integrate sci-tech ethics into postgraduate English courses in the perspective of submission guidelines of international journals. She introduced the importance of sci-tech ethics in the development of science and technology, the attention from central government leaders, and the favor from international journals, analysized in detail some existing problems of Chinese postgraduates who are less aware of the value of sci-tech ethics and improper behavior in academic performance, and proposed some useful solutions to improve sci-tech ethics education, including those for the content and approaches. At the same time, she provided some examples and references for the establishment of a sci-tech ethics system adaptable to Chinese conditions and in line with international standards, a cultural concept with which sci-tech development can be made for social good, and a mechanism to safeguard the implementation of the system.

After the conclusion of the sub-forums, some experts summarized the presentations with comments and suggestions. All the participating teachers benefited a lot and gained a lot. The conference received unanimous praise from every participating teacher.
