The Graduate Foreign Language Teaching Department is responsible for providing English language teaching to full-time and part-time non-English major postgraduates, doctoral and successive master-doctoral students at HFUT. The department now has 16 teachers, including one professor, nine associate professors and six lecturers.
The department boasts exceptional teaching facilities, a well-designed curriculum and advanced teaching techniques. It provides EPC classrooms designed for independent learning of postgraduate level English, with one available on each of the campuses by Tunxi Road, around Feicui Lake, and in Xuancheng. Additionally, it leverages an iFlytek smart teaching platform for foreign language research and offers several MOOCs such as “Academic English Writing and Communication” and “Scientific and Technical Translation”, and a provincial-listed ideological and political education demonstration course called “Reading and Writing Science and Technology Literature in English”. The curriculum, featuring engineering knowledge imparting, practical work style training, and entrepreneurship raising, is designed to cultivate students into key and leading professionals who will possess strong moral integrity, outstanding abilities and consciously serve the country, so that it can better demonstrate the cultivation characteristics of the department.
All faculty members are dedicated, exemplary, and skillful in teaching according to student individual aptitudes. They also explore and practice new ways to better teach postgraduates public English, and actively participate in teaching reform. Relying on high-quality resources of the university, they work diligently to create new teaching approaches that align with current market demands to better serve the development of this specialty. The teaching content is directly related to the majors of students, and, in step with the time, closely follows the needs of the country for its scientific and technological innovation. Thanks to the in-time adjustment with the progress of science, technology and cutting-edge know-how, the content remarkably helps students improve their ability to join in international academic exchanges.
The teachers of the department not only fulfill teaching tasks in a quality and quantity guarantee manner, but also actively participate in academic research. Over recent years, all of them have been trained in advanced or short upgrading study courses. They have led about a dozen provincial scientific or teaching research projects, and ten university-listed ones. They have published academic papers in such well-known journals as Foreign Languages Research Waiyu Yanjiu, Foreign Language Research Waiyu Xuekan, Foreign Language Learning Theory and Practice, and Journal of Anhui Normal University. Additionally, they have completed several monographs and textbooks listed in the provincial or university five-year planning.
In the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), this department will further teaching reform, contribute more to the internationalization of HFUT in developing special disciplines with its constantly improved course teaching, upgrade teaching quality, carry out professional personalized teaching and join efforts with other departments to push forward the Double First-Class construction of the university.
